About Us
AVA is an INDEPENDENT charity that provides veterinary services to members of the public, whom cannot afford veterinary fees for their animals. As Vanuatu’s population grows, so does the need for expansive animal welfare and medical care. Anyone who has visited the country will have witnessed first-hand the dire need for more services within local communities.
We rely on volunteer veterinary surgeons from New Zealand and Australia, whom bring a wealth of knowledge, skill and resources with them. We truly value the contribution they make.

WHAT IS ANIMAL WELFARE?
Good animal welfare requires disease prevention and veterinary treatment, appropriate shelter, management, nutrition, humane handling, and humane slaughter. It is the quality of life experienced by an animal.
5 principles matter:
Freedom from hunger and thirst.
Freedom from discomfort and tolerable living conditions.
Freedom from pain, injury, or disease.
Freedom to express normal behaviour.
Freedom from fear and distress.
Ethical Principles
Animals are sentient beings and deserve respect.
Animal Rights and the dignity of the animals are sacrosanct.
There is no distinction between the animal species e.g. birds, cats, dogs, or livestock.
There is no moral justification for suffering.
